We have been blessed by so many stories of how God is transforming lives to love AS loved through this ministry for Jesus. We share this one today from our archives with the hope that it will bless you and “spur you on to love and good deeds”:
Have you ever been in love so much that nothing could stop you from being with the one you love? Well, let me share with you my love story! Two months ago I set out on one of the greatest adventures of my life. It began in a little Indian reserve in southern Costa Rica called Shiroles where twelve of us had gathered to partake in a discipleship school. I had no idea what I had gotten myself into. I have always believed in God and loved to serve others, so that is why I decided to go.
Shortly after arriving I realized that this school wasn’t solely about serving others. Yes that is part of it, but it is about something even greater. It is about learning to have a relationship with God, to die to one’s self, to grow in intimacy with Christ, and ultimately to learn to love. Needless to say I couldn’t have prepared myself for what was to come.
We spent seven weeks in this little town going through classes on discipleship, love, forgiveness, Holy Spirit, internal healing, leadership, and spiritual gifts. It was a total evaluation and transformation of self. I had to deal with things I had run (away) from for years and learned to deal with things I (struggle) with daily. At the base of all these teachings is one thing, though. Gods love! It wasn’t until four weeks in that I understood this part of it.
I have been going to church my entire life and I had no idea how great God’s love is for me! I’m not perfect. I have made a lot of mistakes in my short life and I will continue to make mistakes because I am human. But where I am weak, He is strong. I am broken but he is the Great Healer. My sins lead to death but He died so I wouldn’t have to. Nothing I have ever done or will do matters in the shadow of the cross.
In Romans 8:39 it says, “Nothing above us, nothing below us, nor anything else in the whole world will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.” The greatest love story ever written! I have fallen madly in love with the one who created me.
Thank you, Lord for this testimonial to God’s love. We ask that you continue to bless this child of yours and all who attend the discipleship school in Costa Rica. We are grateful for the opportunity for Mark to teach there once or twice a year for a week-long intensive. May those who seek to become “like” you, Jesus, truly embrace “loving AS/BECAUSE loved.” Help them remove the barriers from receiving and sharing your love so they may experience your love more deeply. We love you, Abba!
